H1 Programme

The Problem with H1 Economics

The H1 Economics curriculum was first revised in 2017, with the first batch of students taking the revised H1 Economics curriculum in 2018. There were a few key changes made to the curriculum:

  1. Essays as a component was removed.

  2. The 2 case studies tested had an increase in marks from 30 marks to 45 marks per case study.

  3. Trade & globalisation was completely removed from the curriculum.

  4. Concepts such as decision-making framework, inclusive & sustainable growth were introduced

The H1 syllabus was then again, revised for the 2023 examinations, reducing each case study from 45 marks to 40 marks, with the total amount of time available for the paper unchanged.

With the removal of the essay component, H1 students may make the wrong assumption that essay-writing is not important. This is erroneous as essay-writing skills are tested in higher-order questions from 8m to 12m. With the case study questions seeing an increase from 30m - 45m, the number of higher order questions will also increase. Learning to write good, coherent and well structured essays is critical to answering such questions well! Most tuition centres do not have classes that are H1 exclusive. This means that the classes that are available for H1 students are not well targeted nor focused at dealing with the requirements of the revised H1 curriculum.

ACcess to exclusive h1 content only classes on the LMS & H1 textbooK

Our Economics Tuition curriculum caters a customised curriculum for H1 students.

How do our H1 classes work

Our curriculum is designed in an extremely precise way where we mark out content that are exclusive to H2 students (H1 students do not need to attend these classes). H1 students will attend a H1 exclusive class on weeks where the content is H1 only.

NYJC & VJC Programme

If you are from Nanyang JC or Victoria JC, you might have noticed that your peers from other JCs are learning different topics sometime through the year. Your exams questions might even be set to test you on a whole different chapter compared to those of other schools!

At ETG Econs, we offer you a customised programme to match your school’s curriculum - ensuring that you do not fall behind despite the divergence in content. ETG students from NYJC and VJC are given access to lessons which cover Macroeconomics in JC1 and Market Structure in JC2, and they can also attend onsite classes for the relevant content at no extra charge!

Repeat Student Programme

A message from Mr Toh

If you didn’t achieve your desired A Level grades the first time round to make the cut for the courses you desire to apply for - you may consider re-doing your A Levels. In your mind - there are probably plenty of considerations.

  1. Will I do better on my second attempt?

  2. Can I get the support I need?

Well the answer to the 2 above questions is - there is no guarantee that you will do better on the 2nd attempt because the question you really need to ask yourself is - what am I going to do differently the 2nd time round?

Plus - if your grades are not bad enough - your school will probably not allow you to go back to repeat your J2 - which means you have to re-take as a private candidate. Without a structured & disciplined school environment + the support system you get in a school - is it harder to do well? The answer is yes!

Therefore it is going to take a lot of hard work, and a lot of commitment to decide that “Hey I’m going to re-do the A Levels and this time round I’m going to MAKE SURE I do better than the first time round!”

It’s not easy. And if you have decided to do that - then, we would like to support you.
