The Critical Misconception

With the removal of the essay component, H1 students often assume that essay-writing is not important. This is erroneous.

Essay-writing skills are still heavily tested in higher-order questions worth 8 to 12 marks. With case studies increasing from 30m to 45m, the number of such questions has grown significantly. Learning to write good, coherent, and well-structured essays is critical to answering these questions well.

The Problem with Other Tuition Centres

Most tuition centres do not have classes that are H1 exclusive. This means that the classes available for H1 students are not well targeted nor focused at dealing with the requirements of the revised H1 curriculum.

ETG Economics Programme
Customised for NYJC Students

A curriculum aligned with NYJC's unique teaching sequence

Why NYJC Students Need a Different Approach

Nanyang JC follows a unique teaching sequence. While most JCs cover Introductory Macroeconomics and Market Structure at standard points in the syllabus, NYJC schedules these topics differently—Intro Macro in J1 and Firms & Decisions at a different point in J2.

The problem? Generic tuition programmes often teach you content weeks before (or after) you actually need it.

At ETG, we've designed a programme specifically for NYJC students so your tuition always aligns with what you're learning in school.

Two Ways to Learn With Us

Choose the format that fits your schedule best

OPTION A

J2 April – early May: Firms & Decisions
Attend both classes at no extra cost
OPTION B

Dedicated NYJC Classes

Join our NYJC-specific class from the start, taught at our Upper Serangoon/Kovan centre throughout the year.

Class Schedule:

J2: Saturdays, 9am – 11am
J1: Saturdays, 11am – 1pm

J1 classes start July 2026—J1 content is identical across JCs from Feb–Jun

Your Teacher: Mr Jeremy Ng

20 Years Teaching Experience

Mr Jeremy Ng brings two decades of experience teaching H2 and H3 Economics at Singapore's top JCs, including Hwa Chong Institution, Victoria JC, and Temasek JC.

His credentials speak for themselves:

  • Former Subject Head, Assistant Year Head, and Career Guidance Lead
  • Led HCI's Economics team to the Best Practice in Teaching Award
  • A-Level Chief Presiding Examiner and Presiding Examiner
  • Represented schools at MOE EconsFest, Nanyang–HCI Conference, and ISYF

Mr Ng understands the syllabus inside out, knows exactly how exams are set, and genuinely cares about helping students think like economists.

Repeat Student Programme

A message from Mr Toh

If you didn’t achieve your desired A Level grades the first time round to make the cut for the courses you desire to apply for - you may consider re-doing your A Levels. In your mind - there are probably plenty of considerations.

  1. Will I do better on my second attempt?

  2. Can I get the support I need?

Well the answer to the 2 above questions is - there is no guarantee that you will do better on the 2nd attempt because the question you really need to ask yourself is - what am I going to do differently the 2nd time round?

Plus - if your grades are not bad enough - your school will probably not allow you to go back to repeat your J2 - which means you have to re-take as a private candidate. Without a structured & disciplined school environment + the support system you get in a school - is it harder to do well? The answer is yes!

Therefore it is going to take a lot of hard work, and a lot of commitment to decide that “Hey I’m going to re-do the A Levels and this time round I’m going to MAKE SURE I do better than the first time round!”

It’s not easy. And if you have decided to do that - then, we would like to support you.
